Dial-A-Poem USA is a new phone number for a new generation of poets and spoken word artists working in the United States.

Over the past few years, Dial-A-Poem has been expanding, and new numbers have been set up in different countries. Dial-A-Poem Mexico and Dial-A-Poem France both launched in 2022, with recordings by a new generation of poets speaking languages native to their countries. Coming soon are Dial-A-Poem Brazil, Dial-A-Poem Switzerland, Dial-A-Poem Hong Kong, and more. The Original Dial-A-Poem phone line remains unchanged—(917) 994 8949—and still features the 293 recordings of poets, artists, musicians, and activists that John Giorno made between 1968 and 2019.
Launching in 2024 is Dial-A-Poem USA, which is produced in partnership with The Poetry Project, in New York. The poets included on this phone line are selected and recorded by the Project, with new ones added on an ongoing basis.

The first group of poets on the new phone line include: Gail Scott, Wendy Lotterman, Patricia Spears Jones, Keioui Keijaun Thomas, Ian Dreiblatt, Joss Barton, Courtney Bush, and Stephon Lawrence

To mark the launch of Dial-A-Poem USA, four of these poets perform live readings of their work and engage in a moderated conversation about Dial-A-Poem and its legacy today with author and Poetry Project Program Director Laura Henriksen.

The event is introduced by GPS archivist Bonnie Whitehouse.
