Giorno Poetry Systems is a non-profit organization founded by an artist. It's based on the idea of artists supporting other artists.
John Giorno was a poet, an artist, and an activist who relentlessly worked to show up for others, and his spirit lives on in everything we do.
Today, we continue to build on what GPS has done for decades: producing an artist-curated event program, releasing LPs on GPS Records, putting poetry on the phone, and providing grants.

Today, we continue to build on what GPS has done for decades: producing an artist-curated event program, releasing LPs on GPS Records, putting poetry on the phone, and providing grants.
To do it, we raise funds via donations, grants, memberships, tickets, merch, licensing, and commissions.
GPS is not an endowed foundation but a public charity, and we rely on the ongoing support of our community. Your contributions make it possible for us to provide artists, poets, and musicians with transformative opportunities and to produce events and publications that can be shared with a broad and diverse audience.
Please consider making a donation or joining as a member.

We express our gratitude to current major supporters, including:
The Westridge Foundation for supporting the public programming at 222 Bowery.
The Helen Frankenthaler Foundation, for supporting a series of peer-to-peer salons and gatherings at 222 Bowery, as well as a “scoping,” as a part of the Foundation’s Frankenthaler Climate Initiative, to assess the efficiency needs for the building at 222 Bowery as a whole.
The Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation and the Jenni Crain Foundation for supporting the Second Annual Conference About Artist-Curated Exhibitions (May 2025).
And the members of the GPS Advisory Council, who are our most dedicated ambassadors: Laurie Anderson, Pedro Barbosa, Stuart Comer, Kyle Dacuyan, Adrienne Edwards, Connor Monahan, Elizabeth Peyton, Paul Pfeiffer, Lee Ranaldo, Leah Singer, and Anne Waldman.
