YUZO SAKURAMOTO
SETS UP
AILANTHUS BOOKS
FOR TWO DAYS

Free
January 30 and 31, 2024

4pm – late
Yuzo Sakuramoto collects books and records. He calls this collection Ailanthus Books and sets it up in different locations at different times. It could take the form of a pop-up shop, but it could also be an informal evening where people simply gather around books, records, and drinks.
Yuzo brings Ailanthus Books to 222 Bowery for a few days, where he shares some selected books and records. If you’d like to see them, please stop by and he will buzz you in, pour you a drink, and maybe sell you a thing or two.

One of the books he has is a brand new one: the revised bilingual edition of Takehisa Kosugi's The World of Sound: A New Summer 1996, originally published for Kosugi's 1996 exhibition at the Ashiya City Museum of Art & History. An old friend of Kosugi, Yuzo did the translation for it.

To conclude his stay at 222, and to launch this new book, Yuzo screens a rarely-seen film of Kosugi performing in the museum during the exhibition.

Screening takes place at 8pm on January 31. Thank you to HEAR / Estate of Takehisa Kosugi.

Organized by Eli Coplan.

Yuzo Sakuramoto is a bookseller and translator. He once co-published a fanzine called Music. The issue No.2 included an article about German duo Stereo Total featuring a photo taken at 222 Bowery, sometime in the late 90s.
