Elizabeth Peyton has made several paintings of the singer Elias Bender Rønnenfelt over the years, the frontman of the Danish punk band Iceage.

Elizabeth begins the evening with a short introduction.

Elias then performs a live set on acoustic guitar.
When I was 12 years old I became obsessed with the album Minutes To Go by 70's Danish punk band Sods. I went to a Copenhagen library and pickpocketed a book about the band in order to scavenge any information I could find about the group. And that's how I discovered that the album's title was lifted from William S. Burroughs. Burroughs then became my first literary fixation, the first writer I read out of lust rather than because it was on a syllabus. I became aware of his 222 Bowery bunker, which occupied a mythical space in my mind, much like New York City does, when you grow up on the other side of the Atlantic.

I first met Elizabeth Peyton at an Iceage concert in 2012 and soon after she invited me to sit for her. Now Elizabeth has invited me to perform at 222 Bowery and it feels somewhat like a pilgrimage to a mecca of my formative awakenings. It's a profound honor to inhabit the space and its ghosts of past and present, as one of life's circles is passing its initial orbit.
