Giorno made his first Rainbow Paintings in 2015, adding a vibrant visual force to his aesthetic, while also nodding to the rainbow often used to represent the LGBTQ+ community, for which Giorno has worked as an activist his entire adult life. Many of the phrases originate in his own poetry, or come from lines that never made it into a final poem.
