To be or not

B is for balancing act

Be as in art, to come into existence

& behold

So why all this background noise or mulch ado about nothing?

Thinking about it as habit and habitat

B is for breaking
And the bad habit of thinking I'm saving some worlds this way

Writing on the Walls

Suddenly makes sense

When time is about
the essence of freeing

Less about any one
Thing

This is a fundraiser for Julie Ezelle Patton’s Let it Bee Ark Hive.

It’s a four-story apartment building at 1387 East Boulevard, in the Glenville neighborhood in Cleveland, built in 1913. The house is a living sculpture. Bedroom closets contain entire art exhibitions, multi-media installations take over staircases, hand-drawn murals cover the walls, and someone glued a row of pennies to the floorboards.

Many have visited the house over the years. One is the poet Lee Ann Brown, who is our host for this event. She begins by sharing some video footage she’s taken from the house in Cleveland. Julie then joins her to perform what she calls a “site-specific improvisation”: a guided tour of the house that takes the form of a performance, or a poem, or a bit of both.

In order to do this, Julie obviously needs to be in the house, in Cleveland, so we watch her performance via a live zoom call.

Watching her, alongside Lee Ann and all of us at 222 Bowery, is the musician Janice Lowe, who accompanies Julie on piano. While Janice responds to the poet’s tour and tinkerings, Julie narrates her Arkitext—her “house-book” made of architecture and text.
